Short CV Presentation

Professor Panagiotis (Panos) Tsourlos holds a degree in Geology (1991) from the University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and a D.Phil. (1995) from the University of York, UK being also a recipient of the University of York “K.M. Stott” prize for outstanding postgraduate research work. After completing his doctoral studies, he worked as a geophysical consultant until 2000, when he joined the Department of Geophysics in the School of Geology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he is currently a Professor of Applied Geophysics and the Director of the Applied Geophysics Laboratory since 2023.

His main research interests are in developing and applying geophysical techniques to solve near-surface geophysical problems and focusing mainly on the numerical modelling and inversion of geoelectrical data. He also leads geophysical surveys supporting wider environmental, engineering, and archaeological applications.

He teaches several courses in the graduate and undergraduate program of the Department of Geology and he has supervised several Doctoral and M.Sc. theses. He is the author of more than 140 journal and proceedings publications. For his work, he has received “best of Near Surface Geophysics Conference papers” awards in 2008, 2012, and 2017. In 2011, he was a Korean Federation of Science and Technology “Brainpool” program grandee. In 2013 he was an adjunct visiting Professor at Western Ontario University (Canada). Since 2000 he has served the Near Surface Geophysics Journal as an Associate Editor and as Deputy Editor from 2018 before becoming the Editor-in-Chief in 2021. He was also a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Applied Geophysics form 2015-2022.
