Short CV Presentation

Biologist holding a PhD from the School of Biology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), conducted in collaboration with the University of Helsinki, with expertise in the diversity and molecular phylogeny of photosynthetic microorganisms. He has been a faculty member at the School of Biology, AUTh since 2009, serving as Director of the Department of Botany (2022–2028) and, since 2023, as Coordinator of the School’s Quality Assurance and Evaluation Committee (OMEA). His research focuses on the biodiversity, ecotoxicology, phylogeny, and biotechnology of cyanobacteria and microalgae, with particular emphasis on cyanobacterial blooms, cyanotoxins, natural bioactive products, and applications in aquatic biotechnology. He has published more than 60 scientific papers in peer-reviewed international journals (h-index = 31) and has participated in/or coordinated national and European research projects and international collaboration networks, including the COST Actions CYANOCOST, EU ALGAE, and CYANOACTION. He is the founder of the TAU-MAC cyanobacteria and microalgae collection and actively contributes to the advancement of research and education in the fields of biodiversity, phycology, and environmental biotechnology.
