Short CV Presentation

Ioannis Pytharoulis is a Professor in the Department of Meteorology and Climatology within the School of Geology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is the Director of both the Department of Meteorology and Climatology and its Laboratory. His research interests lie mainly in Synoptic Meteorology and Numerical Weather Prediction, focusing on extreme weather events. He is responsible for the operational numerical weather forecasts of his Department. In 2022 he received the award of excellent teaching from the Faculty of Sciences of Aristotle University.
Regarding his studies, he obtained his first degree in Mathematics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1994. Afterwards, he received an M.Sc. in Weather, Climate and Modelling in 1995 and a Ph.D. in Meteorology in 2000, both from the Department of Meteorology of the University of Reading in the United Kingdom.
In the period 2000-2006 he was employed as a post-doctoral researcher in the Atmospheric Modelling and Weather Forecasting Group of the University of Athens, a meteorologist in the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, a laboratory teacher at the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus, a weather forecaster and scientific consultant in the private sector. In 2006 he joined his current Department as a faculty member.
He has participated as a researcher or principal investigator in 36 research and educational projects funded by the European Union, as well as Greek, American and British authorities. He has participated as the lead author or a co-author in 57 peer-reviewed research articles and more than 100 publications in book chapters and conference proceedings.
