Nikolaos Tapoglou is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a member of the Laboratory of Machine Elements and Machine Design (LMEMD). He received his Diploma, M.Sc., and PhD from the School of Production Engineering and Management of the Technical University of Crete, specialising in gear manufacturing processes.

Before joining AUTH, he served as a tenured Assistant Professor at the International Hellenic University (2021–2025) and led the Emerging Machining Technologies team at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) of the University of Sheffield as a Technical Fellow (2016–2021). Between 2013 and 2016, he was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at Cranfield University.

His research interests focus on the design, analysis, and manufacture of modern mechanical systems. His work on gears centres on geometric analysis and process simulation using CAD/CAE systems, complemented by experimental investigation. A second core research strand concerns the additive manufacturing of metallic and polymeric materials using a range of processes (DED, SLM, FDM), with emphasis on Design for Additive Manufacturing and the mechanical characterisation of additively manufactured components. His research interests also encompass sustainable machining technologies (cryogenic and MQL) and cloud/IoT systems in mechanical engineering. He has co-authored over 45 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences, has contributed to more than 40 research projects, and serves as Principal Investigator (PI) of an EU-funded research project.
