Natalia Poulou is Professor in Byzantine archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She studied Archaeology and Art at the Department of History and Archaeology, University of Athens. She pursued postgraduate studies in Paris – Université Paris I-Panthéon Sorbonne – as a fellow of Foundation Alexandros Onassis and the French Government and received her PhD from the same University.

Her research centers on Byzantine architecture, pottery and maritime routes and communication in Byzantium. She was a Visiting Professor at the Université Paris Ι, Panthéon Sorbonne, the Université Aix – Marseille and the Università di Bologna.

She participated in excavations in Samos, Kythera, Crete and is the director of the excavations in Philippi and Mochlos. She is the president of the administrative broad of the European Center of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments as well as the Center for Byzantine Research. She is the member of the International Committee of Late Roman Pottery in the Mediterranean and a member of the editorial boards of several scholarly journals and series in Europe.

She has published books and more than 60 papers in international journals.
