Short CV Presentation

Professor Nikos Konofaos was born in Corfu, Greece in 1965. He received the Physics Degree from the University of Ioannina, Greece, in 1987 and the PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Bradford, UK, in 1993. He is currently a full Professor at the Department of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece. Ηe has served as assistant professor at the Department of Information & Communication Systems Engineering, University of the Aegean, Greece, as adjunct faculty member at the Computer Engineering & Informatics Department, University of Patras, Greece and as Fulbright Research Scholar at the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, University of Maryland, College Park.

He is teaching courses on Electronics, Quantum Computers and related issues, he is a collaborative academic staff for the Open University of Greece, he is advising students on their final year BSc and MSc theses as well as supervising several PhD students.

His research interests include quantum computers, micro- and nano-electronic devices and circuits, and optoelectronics. He has published more than 100 technical papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He participates in the technical and scientific committees of international and national conferences, he co-chaired one international conference and was a Technical Program Committee chair for two others, while he is serving as a member of the editorial board of three peer review WoS journals.

His service to the academic community includes positions as Laboratory Head, Division Head, Graduate Program Director, member of the AUTh Research Committee, Head of the Ionian Islands Committee for Grammar Schools Education, Council chair of the First Grammar High School of Thessaloniki, member of several staff evaluation committees, evaluator of research projects for many organizations, scientific coordinator of research projects etc. He is a board member of two scientific societies, the Micro & Nano Society and the Hellenic Society for Physics in Research and Education.  He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, a Member of the Institute of Physics-UK (CPhys, MInstP), and a founding member of the Fulbright Scholars of Northern Greece. Apart from Greek, he is fluent in English and handles Spanish and German very well.

Awards and Distictions
  • Fulbright research scholarship (University of Maryland, College Park)

    The research scholarship was awarded from the Fulbright Institute for conducting research during the academic year 2013-2014 at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, στο University of Maryland, College Park, USA.  The research was on high-tech nanoelectronic devices.
