Charalambos Ververidis is an associate professor of Obstetrics and Physiopathology of Companion Animal Reproduction at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

He graduated (DVM) from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1993). He has been trained at the Department of Obstetrics and Artificial Insemination of the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. There he completed his doctoral thesis (2002) on the pathogenesis of canine pyometra, having granted a scholarship by Greek Scholarship Foundation.

He underwent 8 months of postgraduate training at the Institute of Molecular Biology & Biotechnology of Heraklion and for short periods in Vienna, Hannover and Milan.

He taught for three years, the subject “Experimental Animals” at the Department of Medical Laboratory Technologists, at the Technical University of Thessaloniki (until 2003). He also taught for three years, the subject of Companion Animal Obstetrics, at the School of Veterinary Medicine of Thessaly (until 2006).

Since 2006, he has been teaching, covering educationally, as a researcher, diagnostically, therapeutically and surgically the subject of Obstetrics and Physiopathology of Reproduction of Companion Animals as a clinical veterinarian at the Companion Animal Clinic of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His main mission is to educate undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, always in combination with the effort to prevent diseases of the reproductive system and to care for companion animals that suffer from them.

In addition, from 2005 until today, he has also been involved as a private practitioner (DVM) in Thessaloniki with obstetric and reproductive cases, as well as with surgical interventions on the reproductive system of dogs and cats.

In particular, he has worked, clinically and as a researcher, with the following reproductive themes of the dog and cat:

• hormonal fluctuations of the ovarian cycle and the corresponding morphological changes that occur in the ovaries and the genital tract normally, as well as in pathological conditions,
• cytological changes of the vaginal mucosa and uterine secretions,
• clinical and endoscopic imaging and description of the genital system,
• pyometra,
• response of the genital system to the administration of progestogens and other hormones,
• dystocia (prevention, monitoring and treatment) and neonatal deaths.
• changes in the breast and uterus during the postpartum period,
• mastitis and postpartum metritis,
• diagnosis and treatment of cases of infertility and sterility in male and female dogs,
• prolapse of the vagina and uterus,
• neoplasms of the genital tract (vagina & uterus) and the breast,
• venereal contagious neoplasm, diagnosis and treatment,
• pseudopregnancy in the dog,
• ovarian remnants (prevention, diagnosis and surgical removal),
• management of overpopulation of stray dogs,
• artificial insemination, sperm analysis and cryopreservation techniques of dog sperm,
• intrauterine insemination techniques in the female dog
• vaginal surgery in the female dog (episiotomies, removal of neoplasms & vaginal prolapses, plastic etc.)
• surgical techniques for sterilization of dogs and cats (ovariohysterectomy / ovariectomy and orchiectomy),
• laparoscopic techniques for sterilization of female dogs,
• achieving sterilization in companion animals with minimally invasive techniques (with the smallest possible incision, by hook or laparoscopicaly), safely and with, as much as possible, minimal pain and stress for the animal, etc.

He participated as an invited speaker in 4 radio and television media, as well as in 9 open information speeches for animal-loving viewers and listeners, regarding the welfare and management of the reproduction of companion animals.

He participated in 88 scientific conferences – workshops – seminars, in 72 of which with 139 oral presentations or posters. He made 42 scientific presentations as an invited speaker.
