Demetra Samara was born in Thessaloniki. She graduated from the School of Philology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (BA 1997). She pursued postgraduate studies in the same School (MA 2002, PhD 2014), specializing in Medieval Greek Philology. She worked as a teacher in Greek Secondary Education (2002-2020). In the meantime, she taught and conducted research for the Department of Medieval and Modern Greek Studies at the School of Philology, AUTh (2015-2019). Since 2020 she teaches Medieval Greek Philology at the School of Philology, AUTh (as a member of the Laboratory and Teaching Staff). Since 2025 she is Assistant Professor of Medieval Greek Philology at AUTh. Her research focuses on rhetoric, hagiography, epistolography, and poetry in the Palaeologan era.
