Christina Papakyriakou
Christina Papakyriakou is a member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki since 2014. She teaches the course “Exercises in Archaeological Sites and Museums” as long as courses about byzantine architecture, wall painting, pottery, numismatics, Seljuck and Ottoman Art in collaboration with senior members of the teaching staff.
Since 1994 she is member of the research team of the project “Corpus of the Early Christian Floor Mosaics of Greece” conducted under the supervision of Prof. Emer. Panajota Assimakopoulou-Atzaka in the Centre for Byzantine Research of Aristotle University. She has participated as research associate in three others research projects of the University in collaboration with institutes form abroad.
She has worked in the Ministry of Culture (Archaeological Service) in Kavala, Chalkidiki and Veria. She was member of the working teams for the Museological Study for the Byzantine Museum of Veria (Ministry pf Culture) and for the creation of multimedia applications in the Silversmithing’s Museum of Ioannina (Pireaus Bank Group Cultural Foundation). She was curator of the art exhibition “Impressions: Byzantine Thessalonike in photos and drawings from the British School at Athens (1888-1910)”, Vafopouleio Cultural Centre 2012-2013, that was organized by the Centre for Byzantine Research AUTH and the British School at Athens. She has taken part in the Department’s educational excavations in Philippoi, Dion, Pella and Cyprus.
She wrote a thesis under the title: “Public Spectacles in the Eastern Roman Empire during Late Antiquity. The Testimony of Written Sources and Archaeological Finds from Antioch, Ephesos and Constantinople”. Her main scientific interests are floor mosaics, contests and spectacles, as well as the interaction between Paganism and Christianity during Late Antiquitty.
