Alexandra-Kyriaki Wassiliou-Seibt was born in Vienna, Austria (1/5/1969). She spent her childhood and school years in Kavala. She studied Classical Philology, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at the University of Vienna, Austria, where she completed her postgraduate and doctoral studies, as well as her habilitation (venia docendi/Byzantine Studies). She is a specialist for Byzantine Sigillography with international recognition. She was Senior Staff Scientist at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and since 2019 she is visiting researcher (honorary fellow for Byzantine Sigillography) at the same institution. Since 2019 she is a member of the faculty of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2019-2024 Associate Professor, and since 2024 full Professor for Byzantine History and Sigillography). She has participated in international conferences, workshops, scientific symposia in Greece and abroad (with presentations). She has organized international workshops, round tables, and exhibitions. She is the author of seven scientific monographs and more than seventy articles. Additionally, she has (co-)published four scientific volumes. She has worked/is working in national and foreign research projects. She is scientific leader of current research projects in Byzantine Sigillography at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. She was Summer fellow in Dumbarton Oaks. She studied Greek and international public and private collections of Byzantine Lead seals in situ. She collaborates with relevant institutions and private seals collectors. Since 2023 she serves as Vice-President of the Commission for Byzantine Sigillography at the AIEB. She is co-editor of the international periodicon Studies in Byzantine SigillographyAIEB, and since 2022 as General Secretary of the Hellenic Historical Society.
