Anastasia Tsirika received her first degree from the School of Sciences, Department of Biology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in 1998, her Master degree in 2000 from the Department of Biology (AUTH) (Postgraduate Study Program: Hydrobiology & Aquacultures) and her PhD in 2005 from the Department of Biology (AUTH) (Scientific field: Marine Botany). Her postgraduate studies were focusing on the biology, taxonomy and ecology of marine algae as well as on the monitoring of benthic phytocommunities.
Her main activities include: writing proposals, reports, and scientific publications, teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels and participation in research projects relevant to water quality and bioindicators, taxonomy, distribution and seasonality of aquatic microalgae and macrophytes, mapping of benthic phytocommunities, cultivation of microalgae and macroalgae, management of protected areas, non destructive sampling of organisms.
In addition, she is well experienced in: experimental design, water resources management, development and implementation of monitoring protocols, monitoring of water quality and characterization of the ecological status, implementation of Habitats Directive regarding the coastal and marine habitat types, implementation of the Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) via monitoring of phytoplankton and macrophytes, management of water quality data and reporting, ecological analysis of communities, in situ identification of organisms, organisms and water sampling, etc.
