Aristeidis Kastridis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. His academic field is Mountainous Water Management and Control – Hydrometeorology. He holds a B.Sc. in Forestry and Natural Environment, an M.Sc., and a Ph.D. from the same Department. He has also completed three postdoctoral research projects focusing on hydrology, climate change, soil erosion, and surface runoff. Part of his research training was conducted at the Technical University in Zvolen, Slovakia, through an international research mobility fellowship.
His teaching and research activities focus on Mountainous Water Management and Control, sediment production processes (including soil erosion, landslides, rockfalls, and weathering), sediment transport, the hydrology and hydraulics of mountainous watersheds, hydrometeorology, flood hazard assessment, extreme runoff estimation, flood peak forecasting, measurement and analysis of surface runoff and streamflow, the design and construction of torrent control structures and check dams, sediment retention and control, soil erosion processes, evapotranspiration, the impacts of wildfires and climate change, dendrochronology and dendroclimatology, as well as the application of hydrological and hydraulic models integrated with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
He has participated as a researcher in numerous national and international research projects, including Horizon Europe projects. He also serves as an expert evaluator for the European Commission, assessing research proposals and monitoring European research projects. In addition, he is a reviewer for several high-impact international scientific journals and has served as Guest Editor for special issues in international peer-reviewed journals.
His scientific output includes numerous articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and presentations at international scientific conferences. In 2022 and 2023, he was included in the World’s Top 2% list of te most influential Scientists, published annually by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, in recognition of the global impact of his scientific research.
